"100 Day"

Since the very first day of kindergarten, Mrs. Hollembeak's class has been learning to write an comprehend numbers to 100. One of the many activities included a daily ritual to mark the passing of time by adding ice cream scoops to a giant wall display. As the ice cream cone grew, Emery's anticipation of the promised "100 Day Celebration" grew too.

Finally, about 10 days ago, the weekly note in her backpack announced, "...barring unforseen snow days, our class will celebrate 100 day on Monday, February 2nd, 2009."
Home preparation instructions included creating a poster with 100 things to be carried during the 100 day parade.

Many ideas were discussed for this familiy project...cat stickers arranged in a carnival scene, dog kibble glued to a paper bowl, nuts and bolts arranged into the shape of the number 100, various types of cereal, sweetheart candies, etc. Any of those things might have been easier. Emery decided we would make her banner with 100 tiny paper snowflakes; I agreed to help. Hours later, David chided, "I bet that nuts and bolts idea doesn't seem so bad now..."
